Akron native LeBron James pens new children’s book ‘I Am More Than’

AKRON, Ohio – Akron native and NBA star LeBron James authored a new children’s book that shows children they are more than one label, interest or trait – they can do anything they set their minds to.

“I Am More Than” will be released on April 2, 2024 and is available for preorder on the HarperCollins website. The picture book features illustrations by Niña Mata. A hardcover copy of the book is $21.99 and a digital download is $2.99.

The new children’s book is a follow-up to James and Mata’s New York Times bestselling picture book debut, “I Promise,” which was inspired by the values and initiatives of James’ I Promise program in Akron. The program, which started in 2011, offers resources, incentives and academic and emotional support that students and their families need to stay in school, according to the organization’s website.

“It’s been incredible to see students, teachers, and families respond to ‘I Promise’ and its message of encouragement. With this next book, we want to continue inspiring kids everywhere to keep dreaming big and not let anything hold them back,” said James in a news release. “‘I Am More Than’ is about believing in yourself and all the amazing things you’re capable of, which no one else can define for you. I hope everyone that reads it feels inspired to be ‘more than’ in everything they do.”

“We are so excited to publish LeBron’s second picture book that will undoubtedly inspire the next generation of leaders to be all that they dream to be . . . and more,” Executive Editor of HarperCollins Children’s Books Luana Horry said in the release.

North American rights for the book were sold to Horry from Margaret Riley King at William Morris Agency.
